14th Dalai Lama arrives in India after fleeing Lhasa

On March 31, 1959, the 14th Dalai Lama reached Indian territory after escaping Lhasa amid the March uprising against Chinese rule.

His arrival inaugurated the Tibetan government-in-exile and intensified international diplomatic tensions over Chinas actions in Tibet, which became a significant Cold War-era foreign-policy issue.
