Allied forces, including U.S. troops, capture Tientsin (Tianjin)

On July 14, 1900, international Allied forces—among them American Army and Marine units—captured the city of Tientsin after intense fighting in the Boxer Rebellion campaign.

The fall of Tientsin removed a major stronghold of Boxer and Qing forces, enabled an overland relief advance toward the besieged foreign legations in Peking, and signaled deeper U.S. military engagement in China during McKinley’s presidency.
