Battle of Guerrero — Pershing's expedition defeats Villa's forces

On March 29, 1916, Brig. Gen. John J. Pershing's punitive expedition engaged Pancho Villa's troops at Guerrero, Chihuahua, routing Villa's forces and freeing American prisoners taken in earlier raids.

The clash was the expedition's largest engagement, demonstrated U.S. military reach into Mexico, and heightened diplomatic tensions between the United States and Carranza's government during the Mexican Revolution.
