Brownsville Affair: Night shooting in Brownsville, Texas

On August 13, 1906, shots were fired in Brownsville, Texas, resulting in a local death and immediate accusations against Black soldiers of the 25th Infantry stationed nearby.

The incident launched the racially charged Brownsville Affair that led Roosevelt to order the dishonorable discharge of 167 Black soldiers the following year and highlighted deep national tensions over race and military justice.
