Capitulation of the Warsaw Uprising

On October 2, 1944 the Polish Home Army ended the Warsaw Uprising with a formal surrender to German forces after 63 days of fighting.

The defeat produced massive civilian casualties and destruction, underscored the Soviet Red Army's failure to relieve the insurgents, and profoundly affected Poland's postwar fate and East‑West relations.
