Civil Works Administration ceases operations

The Civil Works Administration (CWA), a temporary New Deal public-works relief program launched in November 1933, ended operations as federal funding expired on March 31, 1934.

The CWA's termination marked a transition away from short-term emergency relief toward more permanent recovery programs and shaped subsequent New Deal employment initiatives and federal relief policy.
