Clinton condemns Pakistan's nuclear tests and imposes sanctions

Following Pakistan's series of nuclear tests at the end of May, President Clinton publicly condemned the tests and announced punitive measures, including suspension of certain assistance and high-level contacts.

Pakistan's tests intensified a South Asian nuclear confrontation and compelled the Clinton administration to apply sanctions and engage in diplomatic efforts to reduce proliferation risks.
