Coalition Forces Secure Khafji after Iraqi Withdrawal

After several days of fighting, coalition ground forces (primarily Saudi and Qatari units with U.S. air and naval support) secured the Saudi border town of Khafji when Iraqi troops withdrew on January 31, 1991.

The recapture of Khafji marked the end of the first significant ground engagement of the Gulf War, tested multinational coalition coordination, and provided an early operational and morale indicator ahead of the broader campaign.
