Congress certifies Electoral College vote for the 1980 election

A joint session of the U.S. Congress met to count and certify the Electoral College votes, formally confirming Ronald Reagan's victory in the 1980 presidential election.

The certification completed the constitutional process of transferring presidential authority and set the legal and political stage for Reagan's January 20 inauguration and transition into office.
