Congress passes the Philippine Independence (Tydings–McDuffie) Act

On March 24, 1934, Congress approved the Philippine Independence Act (Tydings–McDuffie Act), which set a 10-year transition period toward full Philippine independence and established the Commonwealth of the Philippines.

The law marked a major shift in U.S. colonial policy by committing to a timetable for Philippine self-government and independence, reshaping American strategic, economic, and political relations in the Asia-Pacific.
