Fall of Singapore — British surrender to Japanese forces

On February 15, 1942, British Lieutenant-General Arthur Percival formally surrendered Singapore to Japanese General Tomoyuki Yamashita, resulting in the capture of some 80,000 Allied troops.

The loss of Singapore was one of the greatest Allied defeats of World War II, shattering British dominance in Southeast Asia, strengthening Japanese control of the region, and forcing the United States and its allies to reassess Pacific strategy and resource allocations.
