Final U.S. combat troops withdraw from Somalia

On March 31, 1994, the last U.S. combat troops departed Somalia, ending the United States' direct military involvement in the UN-endorsed mission begun in 1992.

The withdrawal closed America's post‑Cold War intervention in Somalia after the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu and shaped subsequent U.S. caution about committing ground forces to multinational peacekeeping operations with unclear mandates.
