Harding signs law creating the United States Veterans' Bureau

On July 21, 1921, President Warren G. Harding signed legislation establishing the United States Veterans' Bureau to consolidate federal benefits and medical services for World War I veterans.

The new bureau centralized veterans' programs under a single agency (headed by Charles R. Forbes), shaping postwar veteran care and becoming a focal point for subsequent controversy over administration and corruption.
