Jackson signs the Tariff of 1832 into law

President Jackson signed the Tariff of 1832, which lowered some duties but fell short of Southern demands for deeper reductions.

The new tariff failed to resolve Southern discontent and helped precipitate the Nullification Crisis, testing federal authority and sectional tensions over economic policy.
