July Days uprising in Petrograd begins

Beginning July 3, 1917, mass demonstrations and armed clashes by soldiers and workers in Petrograd—the 'July Days'—erupted against the Russian Provisional Government before being suppressed.

The unrest exposed deep political instability in Russia, weakening the Provisional Government and complicating Allied diplomatic and military expectations about Russia's role in the war.
