Kerensky Offensive (July Offensive) begins on the Eastern Front

On July 1, 1917, Russian forces under the Provisional Government launched a major allied offensive against Austro-German lines—later known as the Kerensky or July Offensive.

Its rapid collapse eroded confidence in the Provisional Government and the Russian army, undermining the eastern front and affecting Allied (including U.S.) strategic planning in World War I.
