Manuel Noriega surrenders to U.S. forces in Panama

Deposed Panamanian leader Manuel Noriega surrendered to U.S. authorities on January 3, 1990, following the U.S. invasion of Panama (Operation Just Cause).

Noriega's surrender and transfer to U.S. custody closed a major chapter of the Panama intervention, led to his prosecution on drug-trafficking charges, and shaped U.S. policy and regional perceptions about the use of military force in Latin America.
