Nazi Germany occupies Bohemia and Moravia, ending Czechoslovak independence

On March 15, 1939, German troops occupied Prague and Germany proclaimed the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, effectively dissolving Czechoslovak independence.

The takeover marked the collapse of the Munich settlement, dramatically escalated the European crisis and influenced Roosevelt's administration to reassess U.S. responses to Axis aggression and to accelerate discussions on national defense and support for embattled democracies.
