Operation Torch: Allied Landings in French North Africa

Allied forces under U.S. and British command launched Operation Torch with amphibious and airborne landings in Morocco and Algeria, marking the first large-scale American ground operation in the European–North African theater.

Operation Torch opened a new front against Axis forces, altered Mediterranean strategy, and represented a major escalation of U.S. ground involvement that would influence Allied plans for the rest of the war.
