Partial Nuclear Test Ban Treaty enters into force

The Partial Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, banning nuclear tests in the atmosphere, in outer space, and under water by the United States, United Kingdom, and Soviet Union, went into effect on October 10, 1963, after ratification.

The treaty was a major Cold War arms-control milestone that reduced radioactive fallout, eased superpower tensions, and established a precedent for future nuclear arms agreements.
