President McKinley signs the Dingley Tariff Act

President William McKinley signed the Dingley Tariff Act into law, substantially raising U.S. tariff rates.

The Dingley Tariff established a high-protectionist tariff regime that defined Republican economic policy, affected international trade and prices, and remained the nation's tariff law until the next major revision in 1909.
