Roosevelt signs the Lend-Lease Act into law

President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Lend-Lease Act (Public Law 77-11), authorizing the U.S. to lend or lease arms and other defense materials to nations deemed vital to U.S. defense.

The law marked a decisive move away from strict neutrality and enabled large-scale American support to Allied nations—most importantly Britain and later the USSR—helping sustain their war efforts before the United States formally entered World War II.
