Second Battle of the Somme (Allied offensive) begins

On August 21, 1918, Allied forces launched a renewed large-scale offensive along the Somme front as part of the broader Hundred Days Offensive, pressing German defenses after the success at Amiens.

The offensive sustained the Allied momentum after Amiens, inflicted further heavy losses on German forces, and helped set the strategic conditions that led to the eventual Armistice in November 1918.
