Siege of Béxar begins

Texian volunteer forces under Stephen F. Austin began a siege of the Mexican garrison at San Antonio de Béxar on October 5, 1835.

The siege marked a major escalation of the Texas Revolution, tying down Mexican troops and setting the stage for the eventual capture of San Antonio, which altered the security situation along the U.S.–Mexico border during Jackson's presidency.
