Signing of the Flood Control Act of 1928

President Calvin Coolidge signed the Flood Control Act on May 15, 1928, authorizing extensive federal flood-control projects for the Mississippi River and its tributaries.

The law committed the federal government to large-scale river and levee construction and expanded the Army Corps of Engineers' role, reshaping flood-control policy and infrastructure for the Mississippi Valley.
