Signing of the Treaty of Versailles

On June 28, 1919, President Woodrow Wilson and the other Allied leaders signed the Treaty of Versailles in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles, formally ending the state of war with Germany after World War I.

The treaty reshaped postwar Europe, imposed terms on Germany, and incorporated the Covenant of the League of Nations—an institution central to Wilson's international vision—even as it provoked controversy and debate in the United States over ratification and the League.
