Signs Americans with Disabilities Act into law

President George H. W. Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) into law, prohibiting discrimination on the basis of disability in employment, public services, public accommodations, and telecommunications.

The ADA was landmark civil-rights legislation that extended broad federal protections to millions of Americans with disabilities and reshaped access and anti-discrimination policy nationwide.
