Tripartite Convention on the Samoan Islands signed

Representatives of the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom signed the Tripartite Convention (Treaty of Berlin) on December 2, 1899, dividing control of the Samoan Islands among the three powers.

The agreement resolved a long-running international dispute in the South Pacific and secured American strategic holdings in the hemisphere, strengthening U.S. presence in the Pacific.
