U.S. Marines land in Haiti, beginning American occupation

On July 28, 1915, U.S. Marines landed at Port-au-Prince at the direction of the Wilson administration and established control, initiating a U.S. military occupation of Haiti.

The landing began a nearly two-decade U.S. occupation (1915–1934) with lasting effects on Haitian sovereignty, U.S. policy in the Caribbean, and American military interventions in Latin America.
