U.S. Marines land in Lebanon (Operation Blue Bat)

President Eisenhower ordered U.S. forces into Lebanon and U.S. Marines landed at Beirut on July 15, 1958 to bolster the government amid a nationalist uprising.

The intervention, authorized under the Eisenhower Doctrine, marked a major Cold War-era use of U.S. military power to counter perceived Soviet influence in the Middle East and set a precedent for future limited interventions.
