2002 Midterm Elections: Republican gains in Congress

In the November 5 midterm elections Republicans made net gains in Congress, increasing their House majority and taking control of the Senate.

The results strengthened President Bush's legislative position heading into his second term ambitions and helped secure congressional support for key priorities, including national security and Iraq policy.
