Adlai Stevenson nominated as Democratic presidential candidate

On July 23, 1952 the Democratic National Convention in Chicago nominated Illinois Governor Adlai Stevenson as the party's candidate for president.

Stevenson's nomination signaled the Democratic Party's choice of a new standard-bearer instead of President Truman and defined the opposition to Dwight D. Eisenhower in the 1952 general election.
