Adolf Hitler Appointed Chancellor of Germany

On January 30, 1933, President Paul von Hindenburg appointed Adolf Hitler as Chancellor of Germany, giving the National Socialist (Nazi) Party control of the government.

Hitler's appointment marked the start of Nazi rule in Germany, a seismic shift in international politics that would reshape U.S.–European relations and pose major foreign-policy challenges during and after Hoover's presidency.
