Age Discrimination in Employment Act signed into law

President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), prohibiting employment discrimination against persons 40 years of age and older.

The ADEA created federal protection for older workers against age-based hiring, promotion, and termination discrimination and established enforcement mechanisms that reshaped employment law and workplace practices.
