Airline Deregulation Act signed into law

President Carter signed the Airline Deregulation Act, beginning the phased removal of federal controls over fares, routes, and market entry previously enforced by the Civil Aeronautics Board.

The act transformed the U.S. commercial aviation industry by promoting competition, contributing to lower fares and major structural changes in air travel and airline business models.
