Andrew Jackson seizes Pensacola, Spanish Florida

U.S. forces under General Andrew Jackson occupied Pensacola, capturing Spanish-held forts and ejecting British agents and allied Seminole leaders.

The seizure intensified U.S.-Spanish tensions, demonstrated American willingness to use military force in Florida, and helped precipitate diplomatic negotiations that led to the Adams–Onís Treaty transferring Florida to the United States.
