Apollo 7 launches on the first crewed Apollo mission

NASA launched Apollo 7 from Cape Kennedy carrying Wally Schirra, Donn Eisele, and Walter Cunningham on the first crewed flight of the Apollo program.

The successful launch marked the return to crewed Apollo flights after the Apollo 1 fire and began crucial in-orbit testing of the Command/Service Module needed for future lunar missions.
