Battle of Carabobo — Bolívar defeats Spanish royalists

On June 24, 1821, Simón Bolívar's republican forces won a decisive victory over Spanish royalist troops at the Battle of Carabobo near Valencia, effectively securing Venezuelan independence in the field.

The triumph consolidated independence in northern South America and heightened diplomatic and strategic concerns in Washington, pressuring the Monroe administration to clarify U.S. policy toward newly independent Latin American republics and helping set the context for the Monroe Doctrine.
