British forces formally accept Japanese surrender in Hong Kong

On September 16, 1945 British authorities formally accepted the surrender of Japanese forces in Hong Kong, ending the Japanese occupation of the colony.

The reestablishment of British rule in Hong Kong was a major step in restoring regional order after Japan’s defeat and influenced Allied decisions on governance, repatriation, and security across East Asia during the early Truman administration.
