Communist forces recapture Seoul during the Korean War

On January 4, 1951, Chinese People's Volunteer Army and North Korean forces entered and retook Seoul, forcing United Nations and U.S. forces to withdraw from the South Korean capital.

The fall of Seoul reversed recent UN gains, escalated the military crisis in Korea, and increased political pressure on President Truman over U.S. strategy and conduct of the war.
