Czechoslovak coup d'état: Communist Party seizes control of Czechoslovakia

On February 25, 1948, Communist Party leaders consolidated control of the Czechoslovak government after President Edvard Beneš accepted a Communist-dominated cabinet following the resignation of non-Communist ministers.

The coup marked a decisive Soviet-backed expansion of communist control in Eastern Europe, sharply escalating Cold War tensions and prompting the United States to accelerate containment-related foreign-policy measures.
