Egypt–Israel Peace Treaty signed at the White House

On March 26, 1979, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin signed the Egypt–Israel Peace Treaty at the White House, formally ending the state of war between the two countries.

Brokered by President Carter after the Camp David Accords, the treaty was the first formal Arab recognition of Israel and a landmark U.S.-mediated diplomatic achievement that reshaped Middle East relations.
