Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act signed into law

President George W. Bush signed the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004, creating the position of Director of National Intelligence and overhauling aspects of the U.S. intelligence community.

The law represented the most significant restructuring of the U.S. intelligence apparatus since 1947 in response to 9/11, centralizing oversight and altering intelligence coordination and counterterrorism authorities.
