Launch of Operation Double Eagle in Quang Ngai Province

U.S. Marines, supported by South Vietnamese forces, launched Operation Double Eagle on January 26, 1966, a large amphibious and ground offensive against Viet Cong units in Quang Ngai Province.

As one of the largest U.S. amphibious operations of the Vietnam War and conducted concurrently with Operation Masher, it reflected the Johnson administration's early‑1966 escalation of coordinated large‑scale search‑and‑destroy missions aimed at disrupting Viet Cong strongholds.
