Operation Junction City begins in South Vietnam

On February 22, 1967 U.S. and Army of the Republic of Vietnam forces launched Operation Junction City, a major offensive in Tay Ninh Province aimed at destroying the Viet Cong Central Office for South Vietnam.

As one of the largest ground and airmobile operations of the Vietnam War, Junction City exemplified the Johnson administration's reliance on large-scale search-and-destroy campaigns and had significant tactical impact but limited long-term strategic success.
