Republican National Convention nominates Barry Goldwater (Goldwater accepts nomination)

On August 27, 1964, the Republican National Convention in San Francisco formally nominated Senator Barry Goldwater for president, and Goldwater delivered his acceptance speech.

Goldwater's nomination crystallized the ideological choice of the 1964 campaign and shaped Johnson's re‑election strategy by framing a contest between his moderate Great Society vision and Goldwater's conservative platform.
