Termination of the British Mandate for Palestine

On May 14, 1948, the British Mandate for Palestine formally ended as British civil and military authorities completed their withdrawal and mandate authority lapsed.

The end of British administration left a power vacuum that directly preceded Israel's declaration of independence and the outbreak of the 1948 Arab–Israeli War, influencing U.S. diplomatic choices and regional stability.
