Truman condemns Communist seizure of Czechoslovak government

President Truman publicly condemned the Communist Party's takeover of the Czechoslovak government after the Feb 25 coup, denouncing the action as antidemocratic.

The condemnation reflected U.S. alarm at Soviet-backed expansion in Eastern Europe and helped harden Western resolve behind containment and support for European recovery efforts.
